Aemia is a alternative rock band based in Vancouver, led by vocalist Kimia “Mia” Ravangar and her husband, guitarist Kourosh Zarandooz. Blending crushing guitars with hauntingly melodic vocals, Aemia’s sound mirrors their story — one defined by strength and vulnerability, rebellion and beauty.
Mia and Kourosh first met over a decade ago in Tehran, where performing rock music — and for women, singing publicly — was banned. After their band was raided by police and their instruments confiscated, they relocated to Canada and reignited their creative partnership. “Rock music is a form of rebellion by nature,” Mia says. “Being repressed for so many years made me thirsty enough to want to start a band and pursue everything we dreamt of against all odds.”
